The Health and Care Administration

The Health and Care Administration is attached to the Health and Care Committee and handles the day-to-day administration of matters that belong under the committee. In terms of organisation the administration has a management, six staff and an administration centre as well as a number of decentralised institutions, nearly all of which are associated with the seven local areas according to which the Health and Care Administration is divided. There are seven senior citizens divisions, seven pension and care divisions, as well as a number of nursing homes, home care units, training centres, etc.


The Management takes care of the overall management for the administration and consists of a Chief Executive and three Deputy Chief Executives.


The Secretariat
serves the Health and Care Mayor, the Health and Care Committee and the Management.


The ordering staff
handles a number of different tasks, primarily relating to the senior citizens area, including the development of policies on dementia, free choice – for instance determination of standards for both municipal and private suppliers. It is responsible for overall concepts for the solution of other administrative tasks, supervision of P/O divisions and private suppliers in connection with contracts covering the whole City.


The HR staff are in charge of developing the administration’s staff policy in a progressive way, including management, competence development, working environment and organisational development.


The informatics staff
work with the application and strategy for IT in the Health and Care Administration.


The health staff ’s
primary function is to work strategically and in a development-oriented way on the health and care area of the Health and Care Administration. The staff carries out overall planning tasks within the health and senior citizens area, and has the overall responsibility for the entire prevention and health area.


The finance staff
work on the finance area of the Health and Care Administration. The finance staff ’s task is to prepare prioritisation proposals for the management and the corporate management group, and to prepare budgets, management tools and management information, including concept development.


The supervisory unit
handles all statutory inspections of nursing homes. Furthermore, the unit supervises home car units, training centres, non-residential care centres, day centres and private enterprises carrying out home care tasks, procurement and laundering for the Health and Care Administration.


The Administration Centre
takes care of administrative operational tasks within IT operation and support, accounts and staff administration. The centre also handles a number of internal service tasks for Central Administration.


Public Health Copenhagen
endeavours to provide the citizens of Copenhagen with a healthy and good life. The activities are divided into three programmes: The Children and Youth Programme, the Adult Programme and the Senior Citizens Programme.


Adult Dental Care
aims for the City’s citizens to be able to maintain life-long healthy teeth, mouths and jaws through healthy dental care habits at home and correlated offers of preventive dental care and treatment. Adult Dental Care offers dental care for pensioners who, because of illness or disability, are unable to visit a dentist themselves.


The Pension and Care Offices
are distributed across the seven local areas and handle pensions and housing subsidies and personal allowances for people over the age of 67. Furthermore, this is where senior citizens apply if they wish to receive help and service from the municipality.


The Senior Citizens Offices
are also distributed across the seven local areas and have the overall responsibility for nursing homes, home care, training centres, day centres and kitchens within the area. The Senior Citizens Office builds bridges between the central administration and the local operational units to achieve correlation between centrally adopted standards and the services provided locally.


The Home Care Units
take care of the practical help and personal care of senior citizens. A home care unit is managed by a home care manager, and the staff is divided into implementation groups of some 20 staff, each headed by a group leader.


Nursing homes and centres.
The Health and Care Administration runs a number of Council nursing homes and centres and has operating agreements with a large number of independent nursing homes with a total of some 6,500 residential care facilities and sheltered housing.
