Mayors drive green cars in Copenhagen
Today, ten mayors from leading cities tried a number of electric and hybrid cars when they drove from City Hall Square to Vor Frue Plads in the Green Vehicles Parade.
The parade presented a range of climate friendly cars and illustrated the future of mobility by presenting different technologies. In the parade were electric cars, hybrid cars and cars using biofuel.
The Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, took part in the parade, after which he said: "In Vancouver, we have some of the boldest electric vehicle infrastructure requirements in North America. We know that there is increasing demand for electric vehicles, and today we saw the type of green vehicles we can expect on our roads in the years to come."
Lord Mayor Clover Moore from Sydney also participated in the green parade: "Transport is a significant aspect of any strategy to reduce emissions and these new climate friendly cars are an important step forward in achieving a low carbon future."
The Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Ritt Bjerregaard, emphasised the importance of green public transport: "We have recently launched electric city buses in Copenhagen,. Although the initiative is still quite small-scale there's great potential, and we hope that one day all Copenhagen buses will be green. The citizens of Copenhagen are very pleased with the electric buses which neither pollute nor make any noise."
More than ten cars were on display. Several of the mayors are going to replace their city's vehicle fleet in the near future, and electric and hybrid cars are obvious options. Read more about the Mayors Annoncement at http://www.clintonfoundation.org/cci
